    August 2012 Newsletter - Venus in Cancer

    Venus enters Cancer on the 7th of August and remains there until September 6th. In a way, that is no big deal. Venus moves fast and has already passed through every sign of the zodiac many times in your life. But to a great extent our journeys are actually composed of a lot of “no big deal” events all strung together. Let’s put this one under the evolutionary microscope and see what potentials it affords us for opening our hearts.

    The United Astrology Conference in New Orleans (UAC) in May was a zoo for me, as I expected. It’s good to have a gathering of the tribes, but playing the “famous astrologer” role in a crowd of 1200gets very exhausting. My classes went well and I enjoyed playing at least one role — that of a gay Albert Einstein meeting an equally gay Isaac Newton (played by UK astrologer, Andrew Morton) in Michael Lutin’s terrific show, “Maybe The Mayans Were Right.”

    This is Not Your Grandmother’s Venus Retrograde...or maybe it is!

    Venus turns retrograde on May 15. It makes a station on June 27 and after that  will be in direct motion until the end of 2013.  None of this is earth-shaking. Venus moves fast and unless you are in diapers and weigh about the same as a Thanksgiving turkey, you’ve been through this kind of Venus event before. Venus’s synodic cycle runs about 584 days and it spends about forty of them in retrograde condition. In other words, Venus is retrograde for a little over a month out of every year and a half or so. An interesting subject, but no big deal.
